Last week, an incident at a local café sent me into a vortex of rage.
The punchline is that a man got into my space —which should tell you everything you need to know—but I’ll share the full story while I have you here.
Allow me to paint the scene: it’s a weekday morning. I’m in laptops allowed café with my team having a quiet work discussion while our computers balance on our laps.
A man who was sharing space with us stood up, brooding over our group, and declared loudly and shockingly that our behaviour—sitting with our laptops in a laptop-friendly café—was unacceptable.
People work from home now, you know!! It’s ridiculous that you’re having your board meeting (????) here.
As he stood over us, scolding us for our environment-appropriate behaviour, I responded by telling him to fuck off. (😊)
This didn’t end well, and resulted in a verbal altercation with raised voices and a lot of fuck you’s back and forth making the entire café—many on their own laptops and in their own board meetings, including my colleagues—painfully uncomfortable.
Over the last decade, my patience for men has worn thin.
