The Sunday Scaries: Psychics, life updates, and the gift of mundanity
Been a weird couple of years!
"When I choose to see the good side of things, I'm not being naive. It's how I learned to survive through everything." - Waymond Wang, Everything Everywhere All At Once
Old habits die hard, and while in New York last week, I somersaulted into a tarot storefront in the West Village and asked a “psychic” named Mandy—and her daughter, Diamond — what the fuck was going on with my life.
“You’ve been a good sleeper since infancy, but you don’t sleep anymore. You’ve been stuck in neutral for two years,” Mandy opens. “This was supposed to be a good year for you, but you’re stuck, you can’t move forward. You feel like you’ve wasted the first half of this year, but you need to remove this negative energy from your life before you can move on.”
Okay, Mandy, I think. Let’s fucking hear it.
“You have a lot of bad energy around you. I can help you. Would you like to stay for an additional energy cleansing session?” I don’t accept — I’m a sucker, but not a fool — but the rest of the reading is the exact level of vague I needed to hear.
It turns out, tarot in a crisis still hits the spot.
